I have been riding at the Pony Academy since I was in fourth grade. Every week after school I would go out and take lessons, and to me it has always been the barn. I have spent countless hours there, with friends and in the company of the horses, and it is one of my favorite places to be.
I went out during a lesson to photograph the barn, the land around it and the kids who were learning to ride. I tried to capture the feel of the barn and the personalities of the horses who live there as well as the process of riding, and caring for horses.
Outside the barn with muzzles
tacking up
the girl's field
a fly on Oakley
Greystone

the flowerbox

having a drink
bridles in the tack room
Tye
halters and lead ropes

'Tacking Up' and 'Shadows' nicely framed. In the former, the central placement of the primary items of interest is very effective. The use of the horse to create the frame for the shadow in the latter shifts the emphasis from the horse to the shadow as the key item of interest.
